Chelva: the Water Route and the Peña Cortada aqueduct

In the Los Serranos area, just over an hour from Valencia, Chelva hides two of the most beautiful routes in the province: the Water Route (Ruta del Agua) and the Peña Cortada Roman aqueduct, with arches over the ravine, tunnels carved into the rock and wooden walkways through nature.

The hike

• 🥾 Distance: ≈ 13 km (loop)
• ⛰️ Elevation gain: ≈ 360 m
• 📊 Difficulty: medium. You need to be fit and wear proper footwear.

Approximate itinerary

1. Departure from Valencia at Mestalla at 9:00 (meet at 8:45).
2. Chelva: short stop and start of the hike.
3. Hike through Peña Cortada and the Water Route, with a lunch stop.
4. Return: leave Chelva around 15:30, back in Valencia around 17:00.

What to bring

Hiking boots or sports shoes (no flip-flops), comfortable clothes and a warm layer, sun protection, plenty of water and your lunch: there are no shops on the trail.
