Join the waiting listDid you know there’s a pink lake two hours from Valencia? It’s not an Instagram filter or magic: it’s the Pink Lake of Torrevieja, one of the most unusual natural phenomena in Spain, and the perfect start to a day that also includes the best beaches in Alicante and its spectacular old town with Santa Bárbara castle.
With ValenciaTribe everything is organised: private coach, a coordinator with you and great company to discover one of the most photogenic, surprising spots in the Valencia region.
The Torrevieja salt flats are one of the most unique ecosystems in the Mediterranean. The Pink Lake gets its colour from the microalga Dunaliella salina and other organisms thriving in its hypersaline water — up to 10 times saltier than the sea. The result is a one-of-a-kind sight: the water ranges from pale pink to deep red depending on the temperature and season.

The salt flats are also a Nature Reserve and home to colonies of pink flamingos, waders and other species, making them a paradise for nature and photography lovers. Walking along the shore with that colour behind you and flamingos in the distance is hard to believe — just a few hours from Valencia.

Alicante is one of the liveliest cities on Spain’s Mediterranean coast. Postiguet beach, at the foot of the castle, combines fine sand, clear water and unique views. But Alicante is much more than a beach.
Santa Bárbara castle, perched on Mount Benacantil 166 metres above sea level, overlooks the whole bay and offers one of the most impressive views in the Mediterranean. You can walk up or take the lift from the beach (paid, around €3).

The Santa Cruz quarter, below the castle, is a maze of narrow streets, colourful houses and charming corners. The Explanada de España, the famous seafront promenade with its wavy marble mosaic, and the Central Market complete a city that wins you over in a few hours.

Food-wise: coca amb tonyina, arroz a banda and the famous ice creams at Heladería Rialto are must-stops.
Times are approximate and may vary with traffic.
Let’s be honest: the Pink Lake is one of the most photogenic places in Spain. Pink water against a blue Mediterranean sky and, with luck, flamingos in the background — a photo you can’t get anywhere else in Europe. Add the views from Santa Bárbara castle and Alicante’s colourful Santa Cruz quarter, and it’s a day made for memories.
The colour varies with temperature and salt levels. In summer (June–September) it’s usually at its most intense pink; in winter the tone is softer. Either way, the visit is worth it all year for the scenery and the flamingos.
Swimming in the salt flats is prohibited to protect the ecosystem. But in Alicante you’ll have plenty of time to swim at Postiguet beach.
About 5–6 hours, enough to go up to the castle, explore the centre and enjoy a relaxed lunch.
